Hi, I’m Skoll.
Growing up as a huge fan of gaming and seeking a creative outlet through art, animation, and writing, it was no surprise that my attention quickly turned to D&D.
I still vividly remember my first encounter with Dungeons and Dragons. I was a young boy, visiting Canada with my family and some family friends. We were road-tripping across the Rocky Mountains and stopped in a relatively small town (I can’t for the life of me remember the name).
As we were walking around the town browsing the shops, one jumped out at me and my friend! The window display was jam-packed with D&D miniatures from the 4e miniatures game. We begged our parents to go inside and my god… It was a magical place for my small fantasy-loving mind. Dragons, goblins, gnolls, and monsters covered every wall!
I nervously asked my mother to enquire as to what these glorious toys were for and so she began talking to the shopkeep. He explained that Dungeons and Dragons was a role-playing game and that these miniatures were for both running games but also part of a wargame associated with 4e. Due to our young age, he recommended we begin with the original 3.5 board game.
We snapped that up (as well as a couple of miniatures booster packs) and from then on, every weekend I would go to my friend’s house and we’d beg his father to DM the board game for us! It was such fun! I played Regdar and cut down enemies with my mighty blade! This experience launched me into a young adult life of adoring tabletop gaming and D&D.
Now, much later in my life, I’ve been running 4e & 5e games for over 10 years with multiple groups. I fell into the role of DM due to it being exactly the creative outlet I’d been looking for. For me, the most enjoyable part of D&D is seeing a player enjoying a new magic item I designed or getting excited about a new race or subclass I cooked up.
This blog will be my love letter to D&D. I’ve been working on Veneon Reforged for just about a year now and have multiple PDFs filled with custom races, subclasses, magic items, and realms of existence. I will begin gradually uploading them to this blog along with notes on my design processes. I hope you enjoy the content you find here, use it in your games, and feel inspired to create your own homebrews!
