Playable Race – Froggoth

Froggoth are an elusive race of amphibian humanoids that live beneath the surfaces of the many rivers and lakes of the Floodplains. It is in their solitary lifestyles that they find the means to thrive in this harsh, aquatic landscape.

Colourful and Deadly

Froggoth appear as small, bipedal frogs. Their poisonous, mottled skin can sport a variety of colours in erratic patterns. Like most amphibians, they are adapted to live both in and out of the water, making excellent use of their adaptability.

With a long, sticky tongue and powerful legs, they can stay very mobile and cause no end of frustration to anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves in combat with one. The Froggoth’s toxic skin is caused by the highly poisonous blood flowing through their bodies, seeping through their skin. However, this noxious defense method only comes into action once they reach maturity.

From Prey to Poisonous

The Froggoth have one of the harshest upbringings in the 64 realms. Born in batches of thousands of eggs, the first few months of life for a Froggoth are a game of chance and hoping they are one of the lucky, un-eaten spawn. If they are blessed with the chance to hatch, they must endure 2 months of hiding, avoiding the many creatures and fishermen eager to feed on them. The next 5 months for a young Froggoth are spent slowly metamorphosing into their adult form. During this challenging growth cycle, over 85% of Froggoth’s will perish. Upon reaching maturity, the Froggoth’s defensive toxins will kick in, bringing an end to their life of being hunted.

Life Beneath the Waters

Froggoth spend most of their time living deep within the waters of the rivers and lakes of the Floodplains. They tend to live a solitary life, using the rare, poisonous flora that grows on the riverbed as a point of safety.

Feeding mostly on insects and plants, they have little reason to visit the surface often. As such, they rarely have knowledge or comprehension of the other races and their habits or laws. This can lead to the rare Froggoth that venture beyond their birthplace being ostracized within ‘civilised’ society.

Froggoth Names

Froggoth typically don’t have a use for names so in the occurrence that one has a name, it has likely been given to them by another race. This means that their names can vary wildly.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! I have a soft spot for these little frog guys! It’s always fun to design beastial races and Veneon wouldn’t be complete without a Grung equivalent.

Thank you for reading and may your next session be filled with glory!
