Beast Companions From The Hammerlands

The Hammerlands is home to a vast variety of fierce beasts, many of which can be domesticated by a brave or lucky hero. In this blog I’ll provide 4 creatures that your party could find while exploring the Hammerlands and welcome to their party as a beast companion.

Cattledold Companion

The Cattledold is a deceptive predator that has adapted to appear visually similar to a baby highland cattle. The Norn farm highland cattle for both food and transport which has made Cattledold a feared and hated creature among farmers.

Upon closer inspection, the Cattledold has long, gangly legs, a fanged maw and long sharp claws. The thick orange fur might be noticeably coated with fresh or dried blood.

Young Highland Cougar Companion

Highland Cougar are large, muscular feline hunters that have powerful hindlegs capable of leaping great distances. By the time they reach adulthood, Highland Cougar are extremely independent and would be extremely difficult to tame, however, a youngster may be susceptible to domestication.

Using their incredible talent for jumping long distances, they are excellent at staying mobile in combat and harassing their enemies.

Blood Eagle Companion

The Blood Eagle is a infamous bird of prey that became the original inspiration for the blood eagle execution method used by Norn is particularly brutal situations. The eagle has blood-red feathers and upon its back are white feathers in a pattern that is reminiscent of a skull.

The violent, predatory nature of the Blood Eagle is particularly clear through the frenzy that fresh blood can cause in the creature.

Lupine Raptor Companion

The Lupine Raptor is a small, bipedal beast that is heavily furred and sports both raptor and wolf-like features. They typically hunt in packs to take down larger prey than would be possible alone. This makes them a particularly cooperative companion that would willing take a hit on its caretakers behalf.
